May is flying past, so I’ll briefly post some of our highlights from the last few weeks. A home-ed update will hopefully follow soon.
We enjoyed a lovely day at the beach with family, building dams and sand castles, rockpooling and having water fights.
My mum and I took Esther to visit my Grandma in the care home for the first time. For most of my visits over the last few months she barely seemed to know who I am, but this time she recognised me straight away and held out her arms to hold Esther, beaming with joy. It was so lovely to catch her when she was alert and lucid.
On another of Colin’s days off we went to Watermouth Castle. It was spitting with rain for most of the day but we had a great time and the grounds were beautifully lush and verdant. Hopefully we’ll visit lots this summer to make the most of our season tickets.
On Saturday we went to the 24 Commando open day at RMB Chivenor. There were loads of military vehicles which the children enjoyed climbing inside. We heard the Military Wives Choir sing and watched a tug of war and REME demonstration. Unfortunately it rained most of the time we were there and we got rather wet and cold, except for Esther who was tucked up snugly inside my babywearing coat!
We’ve tried to make the most of any sunny weather with trips to the park, often meeting up with cousins or home-ed friends.
The children continue to be very helpful and dote on their little sister. Aaron is especially sweet with her although he doesn’t always agree with the idea of letting sleeping babies lie, along with several other male members of my family!
Esther is not going to fit in the cardigan I knitted her for much longer!
She smiled for the first time at 4 weeks old but these were the first real smiles I managed to catch on camera. She tends to smile more when she first wakes up in the morning or when someone is stroking her cheek, although so far she isn’t particularly generous with her smiles.
She has also started to suck her thumb sometimes and gets annoyed if she can’t because it is clenched inside her fist!
