Thursdays are currently Colin’s day off, so we take a break from our normal routine to spend some family time together. Also, my mum is no longer working on Thursday mornings so she has kindly started having one of the children for a few hours. She does various things like cooking, French, music, English or maths with them. Meanwhile, I get to spend some one-to-one time with the other child. This is a great opportunity to focus on things that require lots of concentration and little distraction, such as robotics for Aaron and phonics for Tabitha.
This week it was Tabitha’s turn to go to DDS and Grandpa’s house and Aaron’s turn to spend time with me. We decided to bake cupcakes for Granny and Grandad. Aaron read the recipe, weighed and measured all the ingredients and made the cakes completely by himself. He is really enjoying his new independence in the kitchen!
We didn’t have enough icing sugar to make the buttercream, so Aaron wrote out a shopping list. We then nipped to the shop over the road and I asked him to estimate the total cost by rounding the prices up.
Of course he had to run quality control on one of the finished cupcakes!
In the afternoon we drove over to visit Colin’s parents. They live at the top of a lane which leads down through woodland to a pebble beach, so we went for a lovely walk. We haven’t been for as many family walks as usual recently, partly due to Colin working long hours and partly due to the weather, and it was a good reminder that we need to make more of an effort to get out into nature.
